Core Values of Socialism and the Development of Contemporary China’’ Publication Meeting was held in Beijing Normal University

On 17 November, 2019, a publication meeting of the book series “Core Values of Socialism and the Development of Contemporary China” was held in Beijing Normal University. The meeting was co-hosted by Center for Philosophical Thinking and Development Strategy Research of Beijing Normal University, School of Research of Beijing Normal University, Winshare Publishing and Media Co., Ltd., and Learning Publishing House, and undertaken by School of Philosophy of Beijing Normal University and Sichuan People's Publishing House. DONG Qi, headmaster of Beijing Normal University, LIU Gui Qin, director of the Department of Social Sciences, Ministry of Education, Professor HAN Zhen, editor-in-chief of the full-time expert of the center, DONG Jun Shan, head of Learning Publishing House, HUANG Li Xin, head of Sichuan People’s Publishing House, TIAN Yuan, deputy director of the Training Department of the Central Propaganda Department, relevant experts and scholars from other capital universities, People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, and representatives of other publishing houses attended the meeting.

Professor DONG Qi in his speech introduced the landmark achievements that Beijing Normal University has achieved in the field of cultural research and innovation, especially the research on core values of socialism. He spoke highly of the book series and affirmed it was a mature research result with academic value and practical significance, resulting from joint efforts from multiple fields and disciplines. Experts, scholars and publishing units were expected to further strengthen the promotion of the series and give full play to the the social impact of it.

Professor HAN Zhen then offered a detailed introduction to the development of the project and the series. He reviewed the 40-year history of Philosophy of Values in China since its Reform and Opening-up, and the abundant achievements that BNU has acquired in this field. The authors and the press of the series all shared their experience gained in the process of writing, publishing and promoting, and proposed several measures to deepen the research and propaganda of core values of socialism.

Other experts and scholars affirmed the theoretical and practical values of the series, combined with their own research work. Participants discussed how to fasten a wider-range propaganda corresponding with the present situation and new mission and requirement in the new age.

The book series includes five works — Traditional Chinese values and Their Contemporary Transformation, Construction of Values in Modern China, Construction of Core Values of Socialism and National Identity, International Comparative Study on Core Values, and Research on Identity with Core Values of Socialism — each of which explores the core values in an elaborate and unique way. Obviously, any theoretical or practical work on carrying forward the core values in the future will stand on the shoulders of the book series and absorb nutrients from it.
